BearManor Media presents "LEE VAN CLEEF: BEST OF THE BAD" (Paperback), by Michael G. McGlasson (Author), Mike Malloy (Foreword)

The opening foreword of this book by Mike Malloy, completely grabs you: "Antihero, This word gets thrown around a lot when describing the protagonists occupying the cruel, ruthless world of the Italian made spaghetti westerns of the 1960s and 1970s, where the only difference between the (alleged) Good Guys and the (extreme) Bad Guys is that the former limits their killing to the latter. So naturally "antihero" is usually the label bestowed upon the spaghetti western roles of Lee Van Cleef, who was easily one of the genre's biggest and most iconic stars".

We that being said, Van Cleef's character or persona evolves into this hero right before our very eyes, which became a standard formula in some of the best spaghettis...with the exception of THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY (1966). In most cases abandons the self interests quest for revenge or payback, switches to aiding the young man in finding closure in the film DEATH RIDES A HORSE (1967).

Agree with Mike Malloy, Van Cleef depicts heroism with such a perfect world weariness that he never comes off as a stuffy, straight laced, goody two shoes protagonists...Cleef's western performances are obviously timeless, with all of his performances on television as a filler badman or character actor in the vast cast of players...feel his short time in the business left a mark from his career, that of a HERO, who played the part with feeling and truism.

Very reasonable and a good value for the price --- For product description and editorial review check this out on the Amazon site above my review.

BearManor Media, a small press that publishes BIG books. They pride themselves on publishing quality entertainment biographies, so they often put out the first book on unique subjects -- plus specializing in books with nostalgic themes and keeping classic Hollywood alive not only thru his publishing house, but thru his own books. Big thank you to Ben Ohmart and his staff, another winner.

In closing, author Michael G. McGlasson, shedding some light on the life and times of this screen villain, who was also a loving husband and father, a decorated veteran, and a charismatic human being gifted with the ability to bring light into an other wise shadowy world...a thin but enjoyable book for everyones reading pleasure.

Highly recommend - a good read!

Not A Biography!!!

I purchased Lee Van Cleef: The Best Of the Bad thinking it would be a biography of the man and the movie star BUT...

....on receiving a large box from Amazon, inside was the slimest book I have seen short of being called a pamphlet. The Amazon description states 90 pages but this "book" is in fact less than 60 pages of actual text.

And what text!!! There is a short biography of Lee Van Cleef consisting of 16 pages. It is virtually the same information as is posted on IMDb or Wikipedia. Some simplistic essays follow which to all intents and purposes are utterly useless.

Very disappointed.
