5.0 out of 5 stars CBT for Eating Disorders, 30 Sep 2009
This review is from: Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Eating Disorders (Hardcover)
Fairburn makes this therapy model more accessible to clinicians who might need some outside input to this growing problem. It is very well written and provides practical tools for clinicians to utilise with their clients.

As always,Fairburn produces brilliant, practical work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent clinician book on how to treat and manage eating disorders, 30 Dec 2012

This review is from: Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Eating Disorders (Hardcover)
I've previously read Fairburn's Overcoming Binge Eating and think it's not only a great book for therapists but also as a self help for clients..
CBT and Eating Disorders is also a great book but it's a book for clinicians/therapists and not for clients.
This is essentially a treatment book which provides a comprehensive and detailed structure for using CBT-E therapy with eating disorder clients, including how to create a formulation. I welcomed the inclusion of eating disorder questionnaires which can be used with clients. I think some eating disorder therapists whose core training is not CBT may be tempted to bring in some of their own techniques and resources to use alongside the framework in this book but other therapists may find that this book provides all that they need for effective working with this client group.

The author is a gifted communicator first and foremost, and an expert in eating disorders secondly. He has written a book that will appeal to a broad cross section of therapists, GP's and others who need to understand the complex nature of food-related illness. He covers every aspect of the clinical management of the patient from initial consultation, case formulation, treatment strategy and response management. Fairburn writes clearly and in detail without losing track of his stated aim of producing an essentially practical text on CBT-E. I think even those who don't have a cognitive behavioural background will find value in the book, such is its approach to the subject.

Anyone wishing to write a text that will serve as a lasting contribution to help clarify a multidimensional/complex subject, should use Christopher Fairburn's as their template. Great book-thoroughly recommended!
