4.0 out of 5 stars A good guide to the major CO-PC configuration settings in SAP
This book will be useful for IT staff, junior consultants or power users who are responsible for setting up the CO-PC(product cost controlling) module in SAP ERP.

The book gives a good summary of each step in the cost planning cycle in SAP prior to runing costing in COPC: AOP sales planning in COPA, independent demand planning in S&OP, dependent demand planning...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what we needed
This is another one of the SAP press books. It is primarily a high level overview of processes, described in a very generic way. Our production managers hoped that it would help them understand some of the key issues involved in cost control, but actually found that there was not really anything that they could relate to.

If you are new to SAP, it seems unlikely that you will be able to use this book as a learning reference in any meaningful way. I suspect that if you have been using SAP for long enough to want to tackle this topic, you probably already know more than this book will offer you.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good guide to the major CO-PC configuration settings in SAP, 3 Oct 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book will be useful for IT staff, junior consultants or power users who are responsible for setting up the CO-PC(product cost controlling) module in SAP ERP.

The book gives a good summary of each step in the cost planning cycle in SAP prior to runing costing in COPC: AOP sales planning in COPA, independent demand planning in S&OP, dependent demand planning in LTP, setting plan purchase prices in MM & cost-center cost planning in CO.

The book describes each of the important CO & logistics master data used by CO-PC. The explanations of lowest cost revaluation & material ledger setup options (single valuation v multiple valuation approach etc.) were particularly clear. An explanation of all the ML distribution options were missing.

The book works through the main configuration settings for CO-PC in a logical sequence. Generally the coverage is clear, concise & hits the main topics. Maybe a consistent example worked from end-to-end would be nice to see. If this book is aimed at someone who's never configured the cost component split then will they really know which primary & secondary cost elements they should be putting in the cost component settings? An example would make it clear. Also, no mention of special processing for rework orders or co-products, and nothing on cost object hiearchies (with or without distribution).

The chapter on special topics give a good overview of the setup of make to order (MTO) controlling scenarios & ML parallel valuation setup. A summary of account & cost element/cost object postings durring the MTO CO-PC cycle is shown but something similar for make to stock would also have been useful.

Overall; this is very good book if you want to understand the core functionality & technical setup of the CO-PC (product cost controlling) module in SAP ERP.
