4.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Al-Kitaab Series, 27 Mar. 2010
This review is from: Al-Kitaab Fii Tacallum Al-cArabiyya with DVD and MP3 CD: al-Juz¿ al-thaalith: A Textbook for Arabic: Part Three (Al-Kitaab Fii Ta Allum Al-Arabiyya) (Paperback)
This is, by far, the best book in the Al-Kitaab series. Whilst it still suffers from some of the problems present in the other book (mostly lack of organisation or direction), it makes up for it with a wealth of interesting and stimulating texts which really help the reader get a grasp of the written Arabic language.

Additionally, most of the texts are originals taken from journals or books. This means that the patronizing contrived texts from book 2 are no longer a feature. If anyone remembers what trying to learn al-Hal structure from texts in book 2 was like, they will understand what I mean.

Most of the grammar present in books 1 & 2 is summarised, with any outstanding points covered as well. The grammar sections are mostly tables or lists with short explanations and exercises following. I find this to be the best way of learning grammar as opposed to the seemingly endless pages worth of explanations present in books 1 & 2.

All in all it's not a perfect book. But find me the Arabic textbook which is. It's solid and helpful and also serves as a good reference for things one may have forgotten since studying the other books in the series.
