5.0 out of 5 stars For those who want detail, this is your book, 10 Nov 2005
This review is from: Untangling Tolkien: A Chronological Reference to The Lord of the Rings (Paperback)
I recently ordered this book, only on the hope and the whim of it being a book I would like. I was not let down at all. I want books that have more detail then you can use, and that is exactly what this book is. I actually had to order it from the UK, because you cant even find it in the US. I Was very happy with it. It takes you into detail about the entire Journey through the triology. I have a large collection of Lord of the Rings books, that help piece together the entire story. if you ever watch the movies (which yes they didnt go exactly along with the books, but Jackson did a much better job then many others Directors would have) and you wish that they would go into more detail regarding where they are and what direction they're going and how long it takes for them to get there... this is a book for you. A+

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for LOTR fans, 19 Aug 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Untangling Tolkien: A Chronological Reference to The Lord of the Rings (Paperback)
There are many sidebooks regarding Tolkien's epic masterpeice and Untangling Tolkien is up there with the best of them.
It lays out the sequence of events in Middle Earth for most of the characters and lets you know what Merry and Pippin were doing on the same day as Frodo and Sam entered Mordor for instance.
It also adds a lot of background material that I was unaware of and the author gives reasonably informed opinion on the thoughts of Tolkien and answers criticism's on his behalf albeit with a subtle bias.
The only critcism I would make is the obsession with the stages of the moon throughout the book and there is a lot of sidenotes in the margin which can make the pages very cluttered with information. Other than that, a great read for a LOTR fan.
