4.0 out of 5 stars Sparks illuminates Henry V, 15 Feb 2004
This review is from: Henry V (Sparknotes) (Paperback)
One of the most awe inspiring famous kings in English history. A General, an orator a husband to be. The man that would also be monarch of France.
If like myself you enjoy watching the famous film versions of this play, both Laurance Olivier’s original and Kenneth Bragnagh’s remake, or have either struggled through or enjoyed reading the play for yourself or seen this master piece life on stage then this is a must have.
An interesting and at times amusing easy to use guide about one of Shakespeare’s most famous historical heroes. Without dumbing down these notes give valuable assistance in learning about the play, interpreting the 16th century speech and historical background.
From start to finish in a well-paced fashion it takes you through the main characters, from the omni capable young King, via his brothers, enemies, current supporters and old friends from Henry IV days to his French bride to be (the Princess Katherine).
You are guided through all the acts and through the two famous courage-inspiring speeches at Harfleur and just before the battle of Agincourt (one of the most famous victories in English history).
