This review is from: Raven: The Untold Story of the Rev. Jim Jones and His People (Paperback)
If you're looking for the definitive story on Jim Jones & the Jonestown massacre, then this is the book you need. It's a huge book that is testament to the authors thorough research and is told in a style that builds slowly to the horrifying conclusion.

The author was present as a journalist at the time Jones whole empire started to unravel, and the description of the attempt on his life by Jones supporters is chilling. It blends well with the whole story about Jones humble beginnings to his recruitment of people from all walks of life who bought into his vision.

Echoes of Jones manipulation of his followers and promotion of the cult of personality can still be seen in North Korea today. Truly terrifying.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT READ, 27 Mar 2011

This review is from: Raven: The Untold Story of the Rev. Jim Jones and His People (Paperback)
i really enjoyed this book.as the cliche goes truth is stranger than fiction!Raven is a biography of messianic preacher jim jones and obviously the events leading up to the jonestown massacre.the book is written well, has good source material and research.its not some cheapo book knocked up.the book while ostensensibly is about how a cult began its also a story that emcompasses a broad range thematically.jim jones was very much a larger then life character a deluded, pyschopathic, narcissitic, seductive elvis figure who hypnotised his followers.it shows you how people can easily fall under false prophecies.if your worried about how big book is dont, its a great read.feel kinda bad saying that because of the atrocity of jonestown.this is in fact a true crime book.and one,if not best of its genre.Jonestown [DVD] [2006]
