5.0 out of 5 stars Must have book!, 2 Jun 2007
This review is from: The Handbook of Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology: A Contextual Approach (Paperback)
This book is perfect for anyone starting in the field of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry - not just the Psychologists. This specialty has fully embraced multidisciplinary working and this book has something to offer all members of the team. As well as covering all topics to a depth that is actually useful (instead of having a few lines on each subject)it also covers the classification systems. It is also well written so don't be put off by the thickness of the book. Definately worth investing in!

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a comprehensive Reference Text for Clinical Psychology Students and Clinicians, 11 May 2010

This review is from: The Handbook of Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology: A Contextual Approach (Paperback)
The second edition of Alan Carr's handbook is an essential sourcebook for students and practitioners of Clinical Psychology. Detailed and comprehensive, the handbook covers the developmental ranges from infancy, through middle childhood and up to adolescence, examining the range of presenting problems in a child and adolescent mental health setting, how to assess and intervene. Alan Carr's experience as a family therapist comes through in his descriptions of how to intervene with families and community systems and networks. There are a range of practical tools such as behaviour charts to draw from as well as theories of aetiology and up to date references summarised on disorders and difficulties ranging from sleeping and toileting difficulties to family dynamics and child abuse. I return to this textbook again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly excellent handbook - highly recommended!, 3 July 2010
This review is from: The Handbook of Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology: A Contextual Approach (Paperback)
This is an excellent book. Throughout my doctoral training in clinical psychology I found it an invaluable resource, especially when it came to child and adolescent clinical placements and as a starting point for understanding and researching a topic. It also served as a very handy reference text prior to exams. Since qualifying I keep it on my bookshelf and refer to it frequently. It is the most comprehensive, scholarly and well written evidence-based textbook I have come across in the field of child and adolescent clinical psychology. I'd particularly recommend this book for clinical psychology and psychiatry trainees.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read and very helpful, 8 April 2013
This review is from: The Handbook of Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology: A Contextual Approach (Paperback)
I bought this book at the start of my MSc course last year, and I am so I glad that I did!

I often buy the books the teacher suggests are good reading/helpful for the course but most of the time I don't read/use them at all. This book, however, has been very well used this year.

I find the book is very user friendly - easy to read and very informative. I have found it helpful for many of the essays I have been required to write.

My only criticism, and it is really just me nit-picking, is that the book is really chunky. This makes it a pain to carry about with you to/from class.

I highly recommend you buying this book. I doubt you will regret it!
