5.0 out of 5 stars Superb but hope it is constantly updated
Great coverage of all aspects of the subject matter. Hope there is a 3rd edition as things change in any disease understanding and the lay person (especially if diagnosed) needs to be more aware than might have been considered normal in previous generations.

3.0 out of 5 stars An American Surgeon's view of Prostate Cancer
I agree with the front cover of Dr Peter Scardino's Prostate Book. It is an invaluable guide. For a reader in the UK, it has a noticeable United States slant. The treatment I chose for high grade locally advanced prostate cancer (Gleason 8) was radical external beam radiotherapy together with hormone (neo-adjuvant and adjuvant) therapy for two years. Great coverage of all aspects of the subject matter. Hope there is a 3rd edition as things change in any disease understanding and the lay person (especially if diagnosed) needs to be more aware than might have been considered normal in previous generations.

Key points support what I've previously read about the absolute importance of putting yourself in the hands of experts in their field when you are choosing treatment options - and this on its own when coming from a practitioner from a centre of excellence is worth the effort in buying and reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars An American Surgeon's view of Prostate Cancer, 30 May 2011
This review is from: Dr. Peter Scardino's Prostate Book: The Complete Guide to Overcoming Prostate Cancer, Prostatitis, and BPH (Paperback)
This treatment combination is not adequately covered in the book. Dr Scardino is a surgeon and the book has a bias towards surgery. His cancer recurrance rates after surgery are lower than is generally suggested in the UK. He advises choosing a surgeon who has already carried out a couple of hundred prostatectomies, but if we all did that there would never be another surgeon.
