I have long been a lover of non-conventional, modern quilts and own a number of books purporting to help me make my own but somehow none of them have quite hit the mark - until now. I was initially put off by the cover of the book but having bought it, I am delighted with it. It starts from the beginning and really tells you how to make quirky, wonky blocks, how to combine them and how to bring them all together by filling in gaps with odd pieces, making borders with scraps left over from the blocks etc. The author suggests ways to create quilts from 6 fat quarters and then encourages you to do your own thing and rebel. Some may find the underlying theme of getting away from the "quilt police" a bit tiresome, but this is more than made up for by the excellent quilts and easy to follow instructions. I recommend this book to quilters of all levels with a desire to move away from the traditional, pieced blocks in manageable steps.
