As someone fascinated by both by bears and Native American history / mythology, I was immediately drawn to this book. I was not disappointed. It is beautifully produced and written, contains a wealth of information, is lavishly illustrated with exquisite line drawings and to a lesser extent, with photographs. Obviously a labour of love and a work into which David Rockwell has place his heart and soul. I feel enriched in my understanding and knowledge of the meaning and place of these creatures in the lives of North American indigenous people and also feel closer to the "bear people" too.
