5.0 out of 5 stars A soulful and illuminating journey into the world of eros, 5 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Open Secret: Versions of Rumi (Paperback)
No matter which of the writings of Rumi I have read, I am pulled into the world of eros, of connection. In particular, Open Secret does this as I step into the quatrains. The book is arranged in such a way that we are tantalized and teased with Rumi's evocative quatrains, and then drawn, almost against our will (if we had any left by this time), into the poems. Like sugar dissolving, I found myself becoming part of the world of Rumi. Ecstatic and feeling connected to life, this more than any other collection of his works, left me thirsty for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars We take long trips, 10 Jun 2010
This review is from: Open Secret: Versions of Rumi (Paperback)
Some translations are more than just translations - they are works of art in themselves. So it is with this book, a selection of "versions" of poems by the Sufi poet Rumi, as rendered by John Moyne and Coleman Barks. There are too many wonderful moments to pick out just one, but i will anyway:

We take long trips
We puzzle over the meaning of a painting or a book,
when what we're wanting to see and understand
in this world, we ARE* that
