5.0 out of 5 stars An insightful guide to aikido, 15 Jun. 2001
This review is from: The Shambhala Guide to Aikido (Paperback)
In my few years of practice and study of Aikido, and of the books I have so far acquired on this 'living' art, I have found this one to be very insighful and informative on a quite subtle level. It is not a manual demonstrating the steps of how to perform specific techniques but it does impart some of the essential guiding principles of Aikido itself. The book, written in a succinct style, also supplies a considerable amount of background history and information which is very well illustrated with quality photographs, including several of O'sensei himself at various stages of his (and his art's) development. The various sections of the book including those on philosophy and styles make this a 'must' for each student of Aikido at whatever stage of his or her practice, (it was a quite recent purchase of mine!)
