5.0 out of 5 stars A new and improved edition of a classic!
This is an excellent book. The Cicero's have made Regardie's classic text even better by expanding on every point made by Regardie in the original. 1.0 out of 5 stars The reprint is a hack work!
Forget this version... go find the original printing, the "additional material" is disctracting, and takes away from Regardie's Genius!
The original was 5 Stars... this printing... NEGATIGVE stars

5.0 out of 5 stars A new and improved edition of a classic!, 10 Jun. 1999

This is an excellent book. The Cicero's have made Regardie's classic text even better by expanding on every point made by Regardie in the original. They have added extensive footnotes, several rituals, exercises and meditations, and a comprehensive glossary of psychological and magical terms that makes this book twice as valuable to magicians of the 21st century. I can't help but agree with Golden Dawn Historian R. A. Gilbert's assessment of the Ciceros and their work which is printed on the back cover of THE MIDDLE PILLAR. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in Magick and the Kabbalah.

For the serious student this book is more than just a leasurely read. This is not just bedtime reading. This is part of a journey. It is the elements of a new life! I started doing the Middle Pillar meditations and feel the changes taking place in my life. I also bought the CD's with him giving guided exercises in breathing, the Middle Pillar and other exercises. It is awesome.

Studying the Mysteries is a journeyand should be treated as such. This book is a valued item in my library.

Expect to have your horizons broadened and your old wineskins changed! It is powerful and transforming.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two works presented as one., 10 Jun. 2000

Regardie's text is a classic and a must have. This is the only current printing of it that I'm aware of.
The Cicero's texts are attempts to assist and elucidate areas for those without a developed understanding of the area of work.
Both have their potential uses but for me Regardie's writing stands head and shoulders above the more modern texts.
Perhaps that expresses my biases and current needs more than anything else. I would recommend however that the book be read and considered as two clearly seperate pieces. May they assist.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Middle Pillar, 15 Jun. 2012

The Middle Pillar is one of my favourite books by Israel Regardie, and I really believe that the additional material by Chic & Tabatha Cicero just adds to the quality. At the heart of the book is the Middle Pillar ritual, which a Westernised form of energy working. In that regard it is similar to working with the Chakras, but with one important difference: chakras release energy from within, whilst the Middle Pillar invokes Divine energy (i.e. Universal energy) from without.

It is helpful to compare this book with Regardie's other works The Art of True Healing: The Unlimited Power of Prayer and Visualization and How to Make and Use Talismans. The Middle Pillar Ritual is essentially "the method" of the Art of True Healing (and one of the methods behind the Talisman book), except that in the book "The Middle Pillar" it is presented better.

I often recommend "The Middle Pillar" to complete beginners to occultism as a good representation of what to expect from magical systems like the Golden Dawn (which is where Regardie got his ideas from).

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic introduction to Ritual Magic and Meditation, 3 Oct. 2010
This review is from: The Middle Pillar: The Balance Between Mind and Magic (Paperback)
This is really 2 books in one. The first is by Israel Regardie and gives first a detailed description of the psychoanalytical links to the Magic of the Golden Dawn System. The second book is written more recently and is by The Cicaros, this is also tremendously useful as it gives very detailed instructions on how to perform some of the first rituals of the Golden Dawn system, as well as very good instructions on how to relax correctly in preparation for meditation.

Good starter book for those on the esoteric path. Israel Regardie is a little verbose but Chick Cicero has edited it into a readable format. If you are new in this area of research, it will take a little perseverance to plough through but it is worthwhile at the end. Recommended.
