4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book of a a good vampire rpg., 21 Jun. 1999
By A Customer
In most rpgs vampires are powerful beings which make really good foes but are not good for playing due to their powerfulness. Vampire the masquerade solves this very neatly. All the villains , players and a good deal of the npcs are vampires themselves. Throw in the fact that the rpg leans towards Anne Rice's vampires more than Bram Stokers and you have a winner. This is the rpg for those who want to play undead creatures of the night and not nessicerily goths. The book itself is structured beutifully and includes a well balanced basic outline of the setting. Not too much to throw off a newbie and enough to satisfy a veteran. The rules are reasonably well described and not too mind-boggling when you first read them. Theres also some good short stories as well to give players a taste for the setting. To keep this review nuetral I have to say that Vampire the Masquerade has one glaringly obvious flaw. The inevitable disclaimer on page 18 is not big enough to allow for those of a really thick nature out there. Seriously though, some parts of it do tend to get thick in Vampire speak.

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfaction, 16 Oct. 2003
Vampire was a beautiful, traumatic, gothic storytelling/RP game that I had heard much about but not known anything much of..until I bought this book. It is clearly set out into sections so reflecting back on things is easy, the art work is stunning, and it really does give you all you need to get a good feel for the game before you embark on playing it.
Admittedly you do need more than just the introductary book to get going, this is perfect if you're a 'dabbler' saiting a curiosity.
It is now even more beautiful to me, well worth every penny!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best games for storytelling, 10 Dec. 2003
By
A. Heal "Techie" (Bristol, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Vampire is one of the most flexible games out there, lending itself well to politics, intrigue, investigation, high drama, horror and fights that wouldn't be out of place in the Matrix or Kill Bill. As a vampire you are an undead monster that now feeds from the people you used to be, whilst still pretending to be human. Question is, can you keep your monstrous urges in check, bend them to your will or will your thirst just consume you?
The D10 system is very straightforward and intuitive, involving nothing more than counting, and allowing for varying degrees of success. The pairing of an attribute and an ability is easy to 'guess' on the fly when you don't want to interupt the flow of the game and look in a rule book. You definitely don't need a spreadsheet to keep a track of everything.
Although this book is all you need to play the game, there a lot of source books out there to provide inspiration. All of them, including this book, are full of gorgeous artwork and small snippets of fiction to help immerse you into the atmosphere.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2nd edition, 30 Oct. 2009
This review is from: Vampire: The Masquerade (World of Darkness) (Hardcover)
the manual has a wonderful graphic outline, with great pictures in some cases superior of the revised edition counterpart. it's also a let's say "darker mood" and the game is more centered on personal horror and dilemma, a dimension sometimes forgot in the revised edition. i wouldn't have bought it at full price but that was a great deal... i think if u'tre interested could be good for a matter of flavor and for a nostalgic factor (it's soooo ninety)... great quality nevertheless

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, 9 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's a very nice book with good instructions and some decent artwork. There's not really much to say beyond that. If you want an RPG with vampire protagonists that doesn't come across as a bad Twilight clone, then this is a good book. Although, I would recommend checking out the anniversary addition, seeing as that one is reported to have better artwork and slightly more balanced rules.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Storyteller System Comes Highly Recommended., 1 May 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Vampire: The Masquerade (World of Darkness) (Hardcover)
Most roleplaying games focus on the ability to kill, maim, and otherwise destroy your enemies. Vampire : The Masquerade by White Wolf goes beyond that by making roleplaying a key issue. When one truly plays this game, they aren't just playing it, they are experiencing it. The life of the vampire is not one of just "living".

A short summary of this book could be:
For one to truly understand humanity, he must look at it from "the other side".

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, just not as much as 3e., 20 Nov. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Vampire: The Masquerade (World of Darkness) (Hardcover)
A great core rulebook, although nowhere near the amount of content than the third edition. As a game it still stands up well, even if you are restricted on what you can play (you'll need the second edition players guide at least).

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantasic, best purchase from amazon so far., 4 Nov. 2002
Im glad I purchased this book, after a friend suggested it to me (im not your average RPG player) but after reading it I found the rules really easy to get to grips with and have since moved onto some of the other RPG's in the white wolf series. Basically if your looking to get into a RPG you cant beat VTM, got its dark, gothic feel and easy playability make it a 5 stars in my eyes!

4.0 out of 5 stars Correction, 3 Nov. 1998
By A Customer
The reason I rate this book at 4 is I have yet to see a perfict RPG. This is no diffrent. There are terms that some wont understand without reading the whole book first. The correction part is, V:tM isn't even remotly related to A. Rice's Vampire Cronocals, as a earlyer person stated.
