This review is from: Planting Companions: Winning Plant Combinations for Every Garden (Paperback)
This book is visually stunning, but actually manages to be very informative. It offers guidance on using different combinations of planting, with sections on textural grouping and colour themes. However the icing on the already rather sumptuous cake is in the latter pages. The author provides a few examples of planting plans with their variations through the seasons (including basic maintenance) and then maps the probable rate of growth over three or five years. It is rare to find a book, which offers so much depth with 'real' examples. If I had one tiny moan it is that like 99% of other books, no one ever offers an exact list of the plants contained in a border picture - rather they highlight the main elements and assume the author has the relevant knowledge to fill in any gaps. However, still a wonderful book; useful on several levels, admiring the pictures, gaining inspiration for ones own garden or finding more about designing with plants. It must be good - I had borrowed a copy from the library, but it's a must own for yourself book. (And don't lend it to anyone!)

I thought this was a really useful book. It gave me some lovely suggestions of plants to grow together and I can recommend it to anyone looking for ideas.
