1.0 out of 5 stars Anti-Semetic Propoganda
You have to know why Paul Findley wrote this book. He was defeated after 22 years in the US Congress and he blamed the jews. First he lost in 1982 when 26 other Republicans lost. His Congressional district also had very high unemployment. That is why he lost. Mr. Findley is also peddling a book as we speak claiming that the Israeli Mossad killed JFK. Gee that would make...

5.0 out of 5 stars A well written and thoroughly documented text., 12 April 1998

I feel that this book is a must read for all Americans interested in U.S. - Middle East relations and the challenges to formulating a more balanced and just policies. Paul Findley, an Illinois Congressman for 22 years, examines the role of pro-Israel special interest groups in heavily influencing public officials and policy makers into making biased and counterproductive decisions impacting our relationship with the countries of an important region of the world.
Findley has carefully researched and examined the extent of pro-Israel lobbying in this nation. While he defends the rights of American citizens to support causes they feel a moral obligation to, he argues eloquently that the interests of another country should never be placed above the interests of the United States.
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in understanding the importance of having balanced foreign policies, particularly at a time when the United States is trying to serve as an honest broker to resolving conflicts in the Middle East and elsewhere. It was educational and a real eye opener to me, a seeker of truth and objectivity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for any patriotic individual, 8 Jun 1998
By A Customer
One of the most compelling, engrossing books I have ever read. Paul Findley carefully and objectively presents the facts of pro-Israeli influence in America. Most disturbing of all is the degree of influence the Israeli lobby has over Congress. Because of the powerful influence over voters in congressional districts and large amounts of financial backing they provide to candidates, the Israeli lobby has had its way with American interests. The book patently explains why we donate over 3 billion dollars a year of aid to Israel--half of the total foreign aid. Findley's investigation of covert and overt Israeli influence in academia, church, and community affairs is often quite shocking and disturbing. It is no surprised it was a Washington Post bestseller for 9 weeks. A must-read indeed, for any informed individual.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very objectively written, NOT propagandist, 23 Jun 1998
By A Customer
A highly edifying and enlightening book. It objectively analyzes the historical relationship the Israeli lobby has had with the American congress, as well as with religious and academic institutions. For the previous reviewer to say Findley is anti-Israeli is outright slanderous. First of all, during Findley's tenure 22 year tenure as a Congressman, he consistently voted in favor of aid to Israel. As for the other charges that the reviewer makes, those too are also false. An example of another Congressman that was defeated by the Israeli lobby is Paul McCloskey of California. And a careful review of basic American foriegn aid for the past thirty years reveals that Israel has consistently been the top destination of American foreign aid--both financial and military. Egypt, or any country for that matter, has never received more aid than Israel. As for the other accusations that the previous reviewer makes, it would come as no surprise to me if they were similarly baseless.

5.0 out of 5 stars The prerequisite for a true understanding of US policy, 4 Jan 1999
By A Customer
This book is the first of many to inform US citizens, in an unbiased fashion, of the true underpinnings of US policy in the Middle East. It is by no means anti-semitic propoganda, and anyone who wants to know why there are Isreali spies in our country, why Isreal is the only country in the middle east to not sign nuclear arm agreements, why Isreal sunk the USS Liberty in 1967, and why we are continually at odds with muslim nations (among other invaluable information) should read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insight provided by this book should be a must read for any, 27 Sep 1998
By A Customer
Paul Findley analyzes America's pro-Israeli lobbyists and how they compromise National Interest for policy favoring Israel. The author documents the Zionist forces and the tremendous influence these lobbies have over our Congress. Throughout the book, numerous examples are given of how policy has been shaped and how Congressman are reluctant to challenge PACs like AIPAC and NatPAC. The insight provided by this book should be a must read for any student of American History or Political Science.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, enlightening, well articulated and insightful, 14 Sep 1998
By A Customer
Findley does a remarkable job in trying to shed light on the immense political pull of the Israeli lobby. Politics is by no means fair nor just. Mr. Findley chose his profession but one can understand and appreciate the work that went into documenting the facts in this book.
I would conclude by saying that reading Findley's book introduced me to the Council for the National Interest where I was shocked to read that a so-called ally and "friend" of ours, Benjamin Netanyahu recently threatened, "I will set fire to Washington." How dare someone threaten our country. Its a shame we don't have more patriots instead of politicians. Otherwise, our Congressman would have sat up and taken notice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insight reveals the sad truth about pro-foreign PACs, 9 Dec 1998
By A Customer
Finley does well to expose the inner workings of our political system. It was rather astonishing to find out how underhanded the political process can be. I was saddened to learn of the tremendous influence pro-Israeli political action committees and foreign interests exert on our government. I have visited cni.mynet.net and found even more enlightening information there. All in all, I would say that this makes the Asian contributions to the DMC (democratic national committee) seem like childs play.

5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling book telling a story from an insider's view, 27 April 1998
By A Customer
Mr. Findley has done a wonderful job of revealing the level of organization and unity of the Zionist movement within the American Jewry. Although the qualities exhibited by those supporting AIPAC and other pro Israeli lobbies is commendable. The book systematically shows how such lobbies have leveraged their financial and media resources to out-maneuver the American general public and legislators, while the rest of the nation is blissfully unaware of where their tax money is going. I would most strongly recommend this book to anyone wanting to understand the US and its inextricable ties to the Middle East in contemporary terms. The book also shows how the strength of the pro-Israeli lobby, combined with the historical persecution of Jews has practically eliminated the possiblity of anyone openly criticizing activities of pro-Israeli groups for fear of being branded as an anti-Semite.

If one wants to understand how America's foreign policy was highjacked by Israel, this is where to start. After reading this book, graduate to "The Israel Lobby", then "Israeli Exceptionalism" by Shahid Alam. Also read "The Great War for Civilization" by Rbt Fiske. Follow it up with an online subscription to The Guardian and/or Al Jazeera. Then you will understand how The NY Times and the rest of US media, tv included, has sold us out for their own interests.

5.0 out of 5 stars Required reading for all americans!, 27 Nov 1997
By A Customer
This book should be required reading for anyone who is interested in the history of the continuing problems in the mideast. It is full of fascinating information that the mainstream media has deliberately chosen to ignore in its reporting on the region. It paints a very disturbing picture of Israel's power to influence the foreign policy of the USA. The results of this influence are often very much to the detriment of America's own interests.
