Great idea........starts off with a lot of good conflict...but....
Cade spent two months romancing Jamie at the same time he was investigating her employers. The investigation blows up, causing Jamie and her employer, Miss Isabel, to have to face the press and investors angry over losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in Miss Isabel's brother's schemes. Cade arrogantly thinks he can say his investigation and using of Jamie to gain information had nothing to do with their romance. GRRRRRRRR
That was the first bad point, but figured you could work with the premise. But instead of learning from it, he continues in the same smug, arrogant, know it all attitude, treating Jamie like he knows more about he than she does herself, and simply because he took her to bed, he owns her. He even smirks that she is likely going to come crawling to him, because she got her pregnant!!!!!!!
Sorry, this one really sucks. Jamie is a wishy-washy character than lets the arrogant idiot run all over her and you really end up not liking either of them, and possible downright hating HIM. I don't know any woman who could have loved this idiot.
Saying it was dated might cover these sins of woe, but frankly, I did not like this one when it was first published. This sort of jerk was no acceptable back then, and he certainly is not acceptable today.
Especially - DO NOT pay the hardback PRICE!!

Read from library. Written 1986, reissued 2013. Glad I didnt pay for it. Absolutely awful story with domineering H, Cade, what planet was he on? His sexist behaviour went out of style before I married in 1976 when I did have a pop up toaster! Unlike these rich people. See review by d k stokes, spot on.Those attitudes were long gone then. Would never have wasted time, effort getting from library let alone time wasted reading it if I had read a sample first. My fault. Cant remember reading a book with such a MCP for a H. Jaime was also awful as she tolerated his behaviour. The suffragettes must be turning in tbeir graves that book could promote such anti female sexism. Why was it reissued? Book so dated eg her specs.... "even more oversize and stylish". Some books transcend the ages and tolerate being re reissued but not this book. Skip read to end to shorten my suffering. I never read books like this when younger and it has less appeal now.

A re-release from 1986, this earlier novel of Krentz is one of the best from that decade. The hero and heroine start off badly, learning to get to know each other again. The classic tough guy who can control and manuipulate all situations discovers that the soft heroine can fight back and play an equal part in their new relationship. With a background of intrigue and divided loyalties, this is a great read.
