Having read the first and second books I would say the idea behid it was good but it was let down by poor spelling, grammar, transposition of homonyns and the like. A little proof reading would have helped immensely. The odd mistake is easy to overlook but when you have to guess what the author actually meant to write it detracts from the plot immensely.

The other let down is the dialogue, or lack thereof. Interactions between characters are often summarised with the brief interludes where characters vocalise feels more like a set of statements that is blindly accepted rather than a fluid conversation. That being said, fluidity does not seem to come into either novel, it's more a set of rather disjointed scenes with no true transition.

Based on the summary it could have been an interesting series, however the overall feel of the writing and quite possibly the author's own spell check seem to have let it down immensely.

The storyline and plot is great, if a little predictable, but had me hooked from the moment I picked it up all the way through to the conclusion in book 6.

My only complaint is the dreadful structure. Whoever his publisher is should be sacked. They appear to have run it through a spell checker, but failed to actually read it themselves. The wrong words, spelt correctly are used all over the place (Example; the wondering patrol instead of wandering patrol. "the seeping mage" instead of sleeping etc). There are at least 2 errors on each page, and it becomes very distracting, I often found myself having to reread sentences, replacing or inserting the correct words and punctuation. If this had been properly checked by the publishers, it would have had 4-5 stars easily. Sadly this reoccurs in every single book. Proofreadingservices.com should be ashamed of themselves.

While agreeing with the other comments on spelling and punctuation, I am finding these Mage books to be really good. The story (and the back stories) keep me interested and the spelling, grammar and punctuation make no real difference to my enjoyment.

I am not an avid reader as I much prefer to watch a good movie but with so few "good" movies being made I recently returned to books and have found the fantasy and magical genre holds my interest, with the books by this author being at the top of my list of "best Downloads".

This section is for reviews not critiques and as such you should concentrate on the story, the imagination of the author and how well the story grips you, and not try to get one-up on those whose spelling and punctuation are not up to your standards.

This book is an easy 4 star review, however it loses a star for the amount of obvious, and easy to spot spelling mistakes, I am no English scholar but come on; did this book get proof read before it was published? If it did they want sacked. Now the rant is over the book itself is very enjoyable, the story is entertaining and the characters are quite lovable. Worth a read if you can forgive the mistakes. Despite the mistakes I will keep reading the series.

I found the 2nd book worse in the regard of the finished article, sentencing, spelling, structure etc, the story seemed to wake up toward the end, but by then I had had enough, I normally finish a set when I start, but was losing the will to live, so if there is a 3rd it wont be in my kindle, shame because it had potential.

this book lacks scope. it was too much to accept that he became such a good mage by just reading a book, and then being so highly educated as shown at the start he then becomes dumb to world affairs as shown later in the book.
saying that I kept reading in hopes it would get better.

A good enough story, but irritating to read as it has clearly been spellchecked rather than properly proof-read. NO consideration has been given to meaning and the punctuation is distracting. Never the less, it's a good enough story, and I shall read the next in the series.

What a pity the rest of the book didn't continue in the same way. About two thirds of the way through, the proofreading fell apart and in the end, became a real mess. Started with 5 Stars, ended with 3.

A good story spoiled by a lack of proof-reading. The numerous mistakes due to over-reliance on a spell checker really detracted from the enjoyment that I would otherwise have had.

Enjoyed the storyline but the spelling and some of the grammar was poor and I ended up reading some of it a few times before I put my own words in to make it sound correct.😕
