1.0 out of 5 stars A total waste of money
A total waste of money, all the information here is available on the net without much time spent finding it, it seems like he did just that to get his information for the book. Its not even very comprehensive, in fact the whole volume could have been condensed to a third of its size, don't buy it !

This book is an absolute godsend for anyone who brews with actual hops. Information about the very variable quality and date of hops available to the homebrew market in the UK is very hard to acquire and the distributors tend to be somewhat opaque about where they've got them from. At least, with this clearly set-out book, one can estimate not only the type of oils and acids going into one's precious brew, but discover what proportions - particularly of the essential oils - account for what flavours. The storage rating for each hop variety (along with an estimate of how much the acids decline with time) is GREAT!

This is an american book but deals with most of the hops you'll find for sale in the UK.

I contacted Dan Woodske with a couple of queries (he invites contact in the book) and he was extremely helpful.

Thanks Dan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant reference book!, 7 April 2013

I use this book all the time. It's great doesn't blow your mind with too much detail. A really good book to get some quick info and stats around your hop choices. It is mostly a catalogue of hops with a set write up for each and an intro. It should be on your shelf if you brew as it's so easy to use. If you want lots of detail about your hops this is a good starting place but doesn;t go too far down the science route. I use it as a good starting point or reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars very helpful and pretty much comprehensive, 2 May 2014

not much reading, but then do i really care as Dan really references the different attributes of a hop, and really there's more than enough detail given on each hop variety, to make very educated decisions about which hop profile you require. In fact, concise explanations of alpha acids and oil profiles are definite pluses and in my opinion give you a very accurate profiles. Cannot believe I can buy this information for this money (think it was £3.20 or thereabouts).
Also I hear Dan is very helpful and will respond to emails if you have any questions. Makes a very pleasant change.....
