5.0 out of 5 stars A thousand Words
As the author explains, his intention is to explain the reasoning behind the new way that FCPX does its job, and he does this brilliantly. If you want a long long list of every function, clinically laid out for you, and you have the memory of an elephant, then go elsewhere.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful.
The quality of this book is terrible. I counted more grammar and spelling mistakes than I could count on one hand in the opening paragraph alone. The broad concepts and illustrations of the processes of Final Cut Pro X are all there, but I just couldn't get past the consistently poor-quality grammar.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thousand Words, 27 April 2013
This review is from: Final Cut Pro X - How it Works: A new type of manual - the visual approach (Graphically Enhanced Manuals) (Paperback)
As the author explains, his intention is to explain the reasoning behind the new way that FCPX does its job, and he does this brilliantly. If you want a long long list of every function, clinically laid out for you, and you have the memory of an elephant, then go elsewhere.

You will not find every leaf of the tree, described; what you will get is a very deep understanding of the root system, trunk and main branches of the tree, and its up to you, via a self learning curve, to work out the leaf configurations yourself.

A picture is worth a thousand words, and this makes Mr Rothermich's GEM books, priceless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast way to understand FCPX, 2 Nov. 2011
This review is from: Final Cut Pro X - How it Works: A new type of manual - the visual approach (Graphically Enhanced Manuals) (Paperback)
This book is an excellent introduction to FCPX.

With clear graphics and explanations it is ideal for those who want to get an immediate overview of this new software before embarking on more in-depth training.

I'm looking forward to future publications from this author and would highly recommend this book to both beginners and experienced editors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny, 19 April 2012

This review is from: Final Cut Pro X - How it Works: A new type of manual - the visual approach (Graphically Enhanced Manuals) (Paperback)
Final Cut x is so different to earlier versions and the help pages so confusing that a guide like this is virtually indispensable. This one is very good value and explains the basics very clearly. I was so impressed that I 've sent off for the follow up. I suppose the only criticism is that it is not all dealt with in one book.

I've found this book helped lay a road map for understanding the new way Final Cut Pro works and for building a good workflow around it.
Having been using FCP since 2001, I found this book a massive help in dealing with the dramatic changes to the FCP Interface and behind the scenes engine.

...my only issue is that they are quite big books, which means I don't like carrying them, say, on the tube or around. they are very well presented, with lots of graphic info that means you can understand things without necessarily having the software running in front of you.
I have quite a collection of manuals, but Rothermich delivers the goods. I will buy more from him.

This review is from: Final Cut Pro X - How it Works: A new type of manual - the visual approach (Graphically Enhanced Manuals) (Paperback)
An ideal "how to" book that quickly guides all through the complexities of this amazing Video editing program. Its simpler and more graphic style is certainly quicker to use than the alternatives of too many pages of writing.
