5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent tips so that the words roll easily off your tongue
A short but interesting work, packed to the brim with tips for coming to grips with a new language.

However experienced you may be in language learning, it's very likely that you'll find some suggestions here for study techniques you've not yet used.

Very worth while for anyone struggling - or about to begin struggling - to master a foreign tongue.

2.0 out of 5 stars In my opinion, the title of this book is very misleading - it is actually just a book of tips to try out.
We often use the phrase "never judge a book by its cover" when we think something may be better than it appears. In this case the opposite is true. The title of this book and the cover design misleads you into thinking that this is a book that will teach you everything you need to know about learning a language. This review is from: The Pocket Linguist: A Practical Guide to Learning any Language. (Paperback)
We often use the phrase "never judge a book by its cover" when we think something may be better than it appears. In this case the opposite is true. The title of this book and the cover design misleads you into thinking that this is a book that will teach you everything you need to know about learning a language. It claims to be a guide to language learning for the aspiring linguist. You should be aware that it is really just a book of tips and tricks for language learning. Some of these tips are helpful so it may be worth a read but in my opinion it is not "a practical guide to learning any language".

This book kinds states the obvious but it is still helpful to have all the points and suggestions Gregg Miller makes set out clearly. it has renewed my efforts to learn Mandarin and would probably help anyone who needs to find ways to be more systematic in their learning and just to feel more motivated.
