I have many many diet and nutrition books, all informative and inspiring in their own own ways for different reasons. This book really goes to the core of helping you to understand what things in your diet might be causing niggling symptoms undiagnosable by your GP. It helps you understand what processes are occurring in your body when you digest certain foods containing for example, gluten, corn, soy etc and why they may be causing your symptoms. It then offers detailed help of how to eliminate these from your diet and how to repair any damage. The thing I like most about this book, apart from the fact it is unique inits content, is that you get the feeling, for the very first page that the author, Susan Blum is so sincere in her efforts to help you, the reader. I truly believe if she could get out around the world to help everyone in need of advice of how to overcome their immune deficiency, she would! Infact that is what she has done in sharing her book. I have already recommended it to three people, one who suffers with Hives, another with Rheumatoid Arthritis and another who has sensitivities to gluten. Thankyou Susan for creating such a readable account of why so many people are suffering today with symptoms all related to diet and nutrition and providing the help to enable us to make a real change to our quality of life. I'd LOVE to see a book written on children's health because most of the problems we encounter in adult life are those from a build up of bad diet and nutrition in the early years. We need a greater understanding of how to nourish our children to avoid problems later in life.

This is an immensely valuable book for those with an auto-immune disease (I have several). The author, who is a doctor, herself developed Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and this meant that she had to cure this auto-immune disease herself, since traditional medicine had no satisfactory answers.

She found out that the four steps to healing and preventing auto-immune disease are:

1) Using food as medicine
2) Understanding the stress connection
3) Healing your gut

The ingestion of gluten is believed to cause auto-immune disease, and genetic modification of crops like corn, soy and wheat exacerbates the problem. Modern-day diets in general trigger the development of auto-immune disease.

Also, a diet high in animal-based foods such as dairy, eggs and beef can promote inflammation and throw off the balance of good bacteria that live in your gut.

Potential triggers are chronic stress, hormone imbalance and infections.

The author discusses gluten, celiac disease and gluten sensitivity and foods bad for your immune system, such as sugar and saturated animal fat and trans fats from processed foods. She informs us about the benefits of an anti-inflammatory diet, and other "good stuff", including essential fatty acids, vitamin D, selenium, zinc and green tea. Each part of the book includes a workbook for each theme and beneficial recipes.

We are informed of which foods to avoid and which to include.

There are three valuable chapters on stress, and tests to enable us to assess our degree of stress.

We are told about leaky gut syndrome and how to heal our gut. Important additions to our diet are coconut oil and probiotics.

The author includes three chapters on supporting your liver, and edifies us about toxins such as mercury, lead, plastics, pesticides, prescription medicines, heavy metals, vaccinations and xenoestrogens - the latter being chemicals that mimic the effects of estrogen in the body.

We need to detoxify our body, and remove metals by means of glutathione. Heavy-metal chelating agents include chlorella, cilantro and fibre.

This is an absolutely valuable, excellently-written book on healing auto-immune diseases, perhaps the only one of its kind. I highly recommend that you purchase this book. It provides detailed information on what to eat, what not to eat, what to do and what not to do.

This book was recommended by my brother whose health has improved greatly since following the plan. I am reviewing in the early stages as I have experienced the most incredible results in such a short time. I have Pernicious Anaemia and thought I knew 'everything' about it. I presently self inject Methylcobalamin daily -as I didn't respond to current treatment regime (UK). This has allowed me to 'function'. I did NOT think diet would improve my condition greatly as PA causes problems with absorbing Vit B12 - which I thought was the route of all my health problems - unbearable fatigue, breathlessness, palpitations, dizzyness/unsteadyness, difficulty concentrating, problems with memory, pains in muscles, joints and bones, muscle weakness, pins and needles, headaches and migraines. However, on cutting out gluten - which I did immediately after reading the first few chapters of this book, I am astonished by the rapid health benefits. I have experienced a marked improvement in ALL of my symptoms and have experienced periods of vitality every day for the past few weeks and have also lost almost a stone in weight. I am starting to feel like 'me' again for the first time in around ten years. I have still to implement the plan fully and am really looking forward to further health benefits. Don't be put off by thinking you couldn't make these dietry changes (I was 'addicted' to bread) because the information contained in this book and the way it is presented will be the catalyst you need. Everything in this book makes sense. The medical data is informative and backed up by research. If you have an auto-immune condition, then buy this book. It could potentially change your life. I have recommended it to so many people already.

Excellent book that has had a profound affect on my eating habits and has made me really think about what I eat and how it affects my immune system. It has given me answers to my autoimmune Graves Disease that doctors and consultants do not explain. Would recommend for anyone looking for answers and advice on what to eat and do to help improve your health.

Whist quite a technical book I found the self-testing sections very helpful. The natural remedies to self treat are also great and make sense.

I would recommend this for anyone who has an autoimmune condition. It gives very practical guidance with explanations as to the background details of this broad range of conditions under this one umbrella. I found it easy to read - had to concentrate hard in places and re-read to grasp certain bits, but even as a nurse these things were not taught us in our training! I've still to carry out all the different components, but am working through them bit by bit - with excellent guidance from the author for each step of the way. When you have little option, you'll try anything, and it may just work!

Really easy to understand as the technical details of autoimmunity are explained in clear language. Initial dietary regime is not as extreme as others I have seen and there is a second stage if necessary which excludes more foods - this is good as most exclusion diets are difficult to follow and require either superhuman effort by yourself or considerable support.

This is a book that I believe should be on everyone's bookshelf as we are all responsible for our health and keeping ourselves healthy. I showed it to one of my sons and he borrowed it to read and learn. Highly recommended.

This book is very good. Lots of information. I have been following the gluten free diet for some time now and feel much better. I have never realized how bad actually gluten is. This book is an eye opener. Recommend
