4.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating autobiography from one of the greatest matadors of all time., 9 Oct 2013

This review is from: Killer of Bulls, Juan Belmonte - The Autobiography of a Matador (Paperback)
The book left me with the strangest feeling that perhaps Belmonte's story could be told better by somebody else. The impact that he had on bullfighting is almost glossed over. His countless terrible injuries are almost ignored. This is most likely due to the mans modesty. "Belmonte" is a story yet to be told. He richly deserves a book with the qualities of "Or I'll Dress You In Mourning", "The Dangerous Summer" or, from more recent times, "Death And The Sun" or "Into The Arena". Having said that, the book has some remarkably honest and touching moments not least of which are his reminiscences of his friend and rival "Joselito". For anyone who has an interest in the bullfight, this book is every bit as important as "Death In The Afternoon" and you absolutely have to have it in your collection.
