5.0 out of 5 stars Are you there, Judy? It's us, your devoted fans., 6 Oct. 2008

(REAL NAME)
Judy Blume wrote this book whilst drawing on her own childhood experiences, and the result is a very touching and funny read. I was ten when I first read it and I love the character of Sally and the adventures she has when her family re-locates to Florida. It was my 'joint-favourite' Judy Blume book alongside 'Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret?' (although for entirely different reasons- Sally amused me, whilst Margaret was extremely educational when it came to periods and bras).
After re-reading 'Sally J' recently, I was finally able to enjoy the more adult humour of the book, specifically of Sally's misunderstandings of adult situations. As a ten year old, I was just as baffled as Sally.
This is precisely why Blume's books will go down in history as great children's fiction. She knows how kids think, and she doesn't patronize or belittle them.
I love this book- I love Sally's wild imagination as she panics that Hitler may be masquerading as an elderly Jewish man in her building, I love her confusion at the phrase 'Love, and other indoor sports' when snooping at her babysitter's letters, but most of all I love Judy Blume's unfailing knack of understanding. She just, you know, gets it.

The book was about a girl who had a dream of being famous but her lies could get her into a lot of trouble. Follow Sally in her desperation to find fame. This book was funny but sometimes shocking and I enjoyed every page.
