My Granddaughter is an avid reader and was absolutely 'over the moon' with this set of books. She immediately passed thr four she already had to her younger Brother! A little tight to get out of the sleeve, but a piece of ribbon placed on the 3 sides - with a little extra for pulling - solves this problem.

Good value for money and well packaged.

The famous five books have been updated to reflect more modern use of English. Personally we prefer the old-school language which adds to the character and charm of the stories and fits with the nature of the period in which they were written. Try this on for size:

“Soon they were all sitting on the rocky ledge, which was still warm, watching the sun go down into the lake. It was the most beautiful evening, with the lake as blue as a cornflower and the sky flecked with rosy clouds. They held their hard-boiled eggs in one hand and a piece of bread and butter in the other, munching happily. There was a dish of salt for everyone to dip their eggs into.

‘I don’t know why, but the meals we have on picnics always taste so much nicer than the ones we have indoors,’ said George.”

If you like that, you'll like these stories. If you don't, then perhaps try something more contemporary!

This is a great product, it arrived within days in perfect condition & is really lovely. For anyone who read the FF as a child it will bring back memories & my nephew was intrigued to think of these kids of on their own on 'holiday's' all the time!! Would def recommend

Bear in mind that these are slightly changed from the original books as certain phrases are now considered to be non-PC. Great books though and I love that my girls are now reading the same books that I got so much pleasure from as a child. They love them too :)

Bought these for my brother (age 54) for Christmas he said it was his favourite present - so many happy childhood memories - fantastic books - my brother and I read them as a child and so did my children and I will make sure my grandchildren will read them too!

I bought this complete series second hand, although in as new condition. Each book is missing about a quarter of the Eileen Soper drawings of the originals, which is unfortunate. Can't see why that was necessary as it was only about an extra 8 or 9 pages. The coloured Soper covers consist of cropped versions of the original dust jackets, also unfortunate. The Soper artwork on the inside cover is not included. I haven't checked whether the text has been changed, but at least all the main characters' names have been retained, unlike some later editions edited for political correctness.

Just started to read the first book and I've noticed already that a word has been
changed possibly two and iv'e only read three chapters. Very disappointing and
i think it's very misleading the description of the product. Just to be politically correct!
