First in the long-running Dark Tower series, The Gunslinger is a poetic, nightmarish tale set in a world parallel to ours. I found the single-minded Roland of Gilead a compelling figure, and his dreamlike journey evocative and fascinating. There is a bleak, end-times feel to the world he inhabits, which perfectly suited the late 20th century when this novel was first published. Some readers may be put off by the dreamy quality of this story and by the lack of a resolution, but for those of you who intend to climb that Dark Tower, this is the place to start.

I had heard great things about The Dark Tower series before I took the plunge. Everyone said it is one of the greatest epics.

It's hard to pin point what the book is at first but you soon feel immersed in the world of The Gunslinger and hope he does in deed find the man in black.

The writing is of course brilliant as it is Stephen King and it is a terrific page turner, I just couldn't put it down.

If you love epics or even just westerns then this is a must have.

Probably unlike most people I had never read anything written by Stephan King as for the most part I prefer Fantasy books. So when this seris was recommended I was alittle intrigued.

This book is such a good book as it takes story telling to a different level with events happening that you wont seee coming. This book takes its time to set the scean and things slowly begin to unravel into a very complex and well written story. That will make you want to finish the seris.
