5.0 out of 5 stars Very Stephen King...very gory!!!
I read this a few years ago and the story has managed to stay pretty well intact in my mind. That shows that this is a good story.
It's about an author who, as a child, suffered with bad headaches. On examination, the doctors find that he has a growth in his brain. When they go in to operate, they discover the growth is actually body parts of what can only have been...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good but a drag
I find Stephen King's books to be a hit and miss. Some of his books are brilliant, others are boring. I find this book to be a mixture. It id gripping and has its suspense but that only comes once every so often and the rest of the book is a drag and I ended up speed reading to get it done. The short story Secret Window is much better and has a very similar story. Try...

5.0 out of 5 stars keeps you glued for the next chapter, 8 Nov 2001

This review is from: The Dark Half (Paperback)
This was the first Stephen King novel I read and I couldnt put the book down at any point. The beginning was a little slow at first but as the story draws towards the centre, things begin to shake up. It is an immensely satisfying and well written book, a Stephen King classic, I recommend this book to any readers who prefer a stark and menacing horror/thriller novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars So good I *DID* read it in a night, 30 Dec 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Dark Half (Paperback)
Yes, it's true... My first Stephen King novel and most definitely NOT the last. Started reading it in the evening and woke from my trance 5am realising the book hadn't left my hands for all that time. Yes, it's THAT gripping!!! If there's one Stephen King book you simply must read, it's the Dalk Half! (but only if you're not too squeamish ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, 18 Jan 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Dark Half (Paperback)
This book is purely incredible and well written. Which author else than King could have thought about this idea? A well known writer who *kills* his pseudonym and becomes cursed by its nightmarish ghost. That's simply and purely some great piece of book that must be read!

Another great King novel with one of the best baddies ever! Do read the book first though... The movie is a poor adaptation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly gruesome!, 31 Jan 2001
This review is from: The Dark Half (Paperback)
This book is fantastic. It is quite a bit more gruesome than some of the other Stephen King books. George Stark is a very attractive baddie. This book is great all the way through.

4.0 out of 5 stars bought this to revive my interest in King, 20 Dec 1999
This review is from: The Dark Half (Paperback)
I had heard that The Dark Half was a good King story and so I watched the film first. It was a truly shocking, dull, instantly forgettable T.V. style movie. Some time later I bought the book for a long journey and was very happily surprised to find that the book had well developed charachters, a well written, tightly woven plot and great tension and anticipation at what would happen next. If you are looking to King for the first time, always read a book first and be tentative about spoiling the read by watching the film. Exceptions are Misery and 'Salems Lot the full mini series.
