Came highly recommended and lived up to its expectations.

It has been some time since I have read this book but is still sticks in my memory and must be one of my favourite titles. I can honestly say it's is the first book ever to reduce me to tears which has to be down to the Authors skill. As a highly stressed Analyst I always tend to choose uncomplicated easy to read novels and this one fitted the bill perpectly, without being boring and uninteresting. Set in the early part of the last century, the book tells the story of a young doctor who losses his principals along the way and finds out the hard way how not to succeed. Coming from a mining background, albeit Scotland, I felt I could relate to some of the issues in the early part of the story. Tinged with a bit of medical history it charts the lives of two main characters. Although essentially a love story the book does not have the usual slushy ending you would expect, but I won't go into that.
