This was my course textbook for part of my degree course. I along with everybody elso on the course found this textbook on grammar priceless in explaing virtually all aspects of grammar clearly and simply.
The book's chapters are arranged to give a clear and systematic approach to the study of grammar starting from the naure of studying grammar through the structure of words to whgole sentences.
By far the most impressive aspect to this textbbok is the number of examples which are worked through clearly without leaving any gaps in the explanation and reasoning behind conclusions. All the better is the way the book uses real language from publications such as 'The Big Issue' and not 'made-up'sentences like 'the cat sat on the mat' or 'John loves Mary'.
This is by far the best textbook on the grammar of the English language around at the moment.
