As someone who has practised many different styles of yoga over the years, gone through various yoga teacher training, including Uma's pregnancy yoga, I have to say this book is invaluable both to prenatal yoga teachers and students wanting guidance during their pregnancy and labour. Creating and maintaining balance in the body is essential during pregnancy, don't wait until pelvic pain or lower back pain develops because by then the patterns of bad habits have developed.

If you are a regular yoga student attending classes prior to pregnancy your greatest challenge is to let go of your practice, the deep twists, inversions, fancy arm balances will still be there post-natally. Use this precious time to create the right mindset and breathing for your labour. Uma is a wonderfully gifted teacher so check out her other book "Mothers breath". Enjoy

This is a useful book for pregnancy but geared towards later pregnancy and birth. I have been practising yoga for years, so was looking for something to guide me through what postures were safe to do at every stage. I think it's ok to carry on a regular practise but wasn't sure about twists, deep lunges, folding forward etc and this book had nothing to say about that in early pregnancy. I'm in the first trimester and not at the point where I need to get down on to the floor in stages yet, so I'll shelve this one for when I have a bigger bump to accommodate. Breathing exercises are useful at any stage though I guess.

I have tested this book on my pregnant friends and relatives and they were thrilled. The autor goes through various exercises (or more precisely, asanas) and exercise plans for all stages of pregnancy. She adresses the most common ailments and potential challeneges that may hinder a future mother's well-being with an array of poses and yogic solutions. These has been tested by Uma herself throught many years of her career - I would decidedly trust her authority on the topic of prenatal breathing/movement for the maximum well-being of future mothers. Cannot recommend enough.

I was a little sceptical as it was a Teach Yourself but I bought it because Uma Dinsmore Tulli had written it. It is an excellent book, really well written and packed full of information for pregnant ladies and me as a teacher. The CD that a comes with the book is so useful and explain breathing techniques in clear language. Love it!
