this is the best book i have ever read. i have never read a book which echoed what i was thinking so clearly. it is a passionate argument for science and is a breath of fresh air in a world where superstition and other new ae rubbish is taken seriously. read this to reassure yourself that there is some sanity and rational thought left in the world.

Grateful as I am to have this grand work in the shelf, surely some kind publisher will reprint with an intro from Dawkins or some such luminary.

Only the first half of this book is worth reading. The latter half is more to do with trying to persuade the reader that governments should do more to promote science, which they should but the book is very biased in this respect. Carl Sagan should avoid the world of psychiatry as being a psychiatric nurse I can see his lack of understanding of the whole topic. This then made me wonder about his understanding of other topics and as he says himself "Do not accept something because an authority says it is so" He is now being the authority. I grew up on Carl Sagan and accepted every word but now I question even he. A good book from the library but not a keep sake.

An excellent book by a much missed voice of reason. My only criticism is that Mr Sagan is much too gentle in his criticism of religion. Nevertheless a very candid look at the sway religion and pseudoscience in general has over the public.
