I ordered this book with the hope that many answers would be resolved that where left after the original Star Trek episode Mirror Mirror ended, and they have been. Once you start reading The Sorrows of Empire you can`t put it down. The plot twists bring it all to a great ending. The introduction of all the races and villians and of course characters we love so much shines new life into the the classic franchise. The author has created an excellent and very believeable end to the Empire as quoted in the original episode and I highly recommend it. It plays out logically and sometimes thought provoking if you are a real Star Trek fan for what could or might have been.

5.0 out of 5 stars As with all living things... each to their own gifts, 23 May 2010

This is a stunningly good read. David Mack brings to life a truly dark mirror, full of danger and recrimination. His Spock is a figure who falls victim to the worst tendencies he displayed in the original series. He is cold, ruthless and calculated without the regulating forces of Kirk and McCoy (at least in their normal states) around for company.

Only a few people can be trusted and there is a constant sense that even their motivations may be questionable. It is a violent world that leaves almost every character in some way compromised. The challenge for Spock is to rise above it. He barely manages.

All in all, this book acts as a terrifying reversal of the reader's expectations. I cannot wait for the sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars A love story like no other, 24 Jan 2012
This review is from: The Sorrows of Empire: "Star Trek" Mirror Universe (Mass Market Paperback)
Wow! A detailed biography of the rise and fall of Spock in the Mirror Universe. His love, rivals, thoughts, schemes and single mindedness. For all Mirror Universe fans a must have book which sets the foundation of the later stories in stone.
