Readable enough but never really gripped me. This feels like research pasted together and while the history is often interesting, why not just read the real thing instead? The characters are cardboard conduits of the facts and what's missing is anything to stir the imagination. The central character of Peter Miller never quite convinced me as the crusading German journalist and, particularly to a modern reader using the internet, much of the story of him trawling through the records and interviewing people in the know to get to the truth seems redundant and rather naive. Plus, Forsyth's political agenda is laid on with a trowel, so it feels as though the reader is being lectured rather than entertained.
