I'm a computing student, and I've decided to do an android application for my project. I bought a multitude of android books, and so far this the closest I've come to a comprehensive resource. It only assumes a basic knowledge of java.
Due to the nature of android programming it does require you to jump forward and back in chapters to truly understand a concept. Also there are no complete examples as such, so its very much up to the creativity of the programmer to string together the concepts learnt into a tangible application.
I think its a great book to a more experienced programmer, who is planning to make a move to android as opposed to a complete beginner. But I believe combined with something like "Android: How to program" (ISBN: 0273776886) it would be a valuable resource.
