I purchased this book to help decide where in the USA I would next like to take a break.
Having been to some of the well known National Parks in America we decided we enjoyed the experience so much we would venture into new territory and see other parks that were less well known.

This book is a good starting point for planning, as it does cover all the smaller parks and gives you a lot of basic information about them. It helps quickly eliminate some from your thoughts, and gives you enough encouragement to investigate others.
The only downside to a compact book (about an inch thick) is that it can't possibly include all the information you would require and therefore it leaves you needing a more detailed book when it comes to planning the actual trip.

A great ideas book, that would be less useful on the actual trip.

Few countries can rival the United States in their diversity of landscapes, climate, geology and habitat. This guide provides an overview of 58 National Parks, from Alaskan glaciers, through the wild and inhospitable Rockies to the Florida Everglades. Reasonable coverage is given to the lesser-known Parks, such as Dakota's Theodore Roosevelt NP, where herds of bison graze among rugged valleys, and the ironically-named Dry Tortugas NP in Florida. Throughout, the illustrations and maps are of typical National Geographic quality and style.

With an average coverage of less than nine pages per Park, this guide cannot hope to provide a substitute for more detailed specific guides, particularly for visitors who intend to go off the beaten track. Where it does excel is by providing a concise and enjoyable overview of the Parks, and a starting point for further reading.

It would have been nice to have more detail but as there are so many national parks, that's quite a big ask! This book is a very good starting point to the parks you might want to visit.

We recently did a your of a number of the National parks and found this guide invaluable. Although it only provides a limited amount of information on each Park we found it really useful in highlighting the things to see according to how much time you had to spend. This enabled us to plan our trip and ensured that we got the most out of each Park we visited. The book is very nicely produced and easy to read and follow. We could not have done without it.

I have searched for a comprehensive book about the wondrous National Parks of America, and this lovely book ticked every box, and was the only one to do so. An excellent and convenient size, full of all the information you could possibly need.

All information on how to get to the national parks, what to do there, pictures, operating hours, and history of the parks. This is the perfect addition for my travel agency library.

This isn't a hugely comprehensive guide to any of the parks, but it is a lovely book for trying to decide where to visit on holiday. There is a lot of information contained within it, but you have to bear in mind that it is just one volume and there are many parks so there can't be hundreds of pages devoted to each.
Of course, being National Geographic the photos are lovely and the quality second to none.
