This review is from: A Rake's Guide to Pleasure (Zebra Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
When Emma Jensen finds herself all alone in the world she moves to London, adopts the identity of her deceased uncle's non-existent widow and sets out to make her fortune. And while the new Lady Denmore may be a gambler and a liar, she is certainly not a cheat, and wagering on games of chance is the one thing in her life that she is truly good at.

So when the handsome and notorious Duke of Somerhart starts to take an interest, Emma knows she needs to focus on the cards and stick to her plan. Because no matter how gorgeous the man is, she has no intentions of becoming his mistress. Yet Hart is so very tempting - and to a woman with nothing left to lose, he might just be a gamble worth taking.

The all-powerful duke and loving brother of TO TEMPT A SCOTSMAN returns, this time in his natural habitat of the London Ton. Hart is a dangerous man with a cruelly sensual edge, notorious in for his youthful passion, and much whispered about for his discretion. But Emma runs him through the emotional wringer until he no longer knows what to think of feel. Yet he doesn't give up. Which is perfect for Emma. Independent, intelligent and adventurous, she's determined to live her own life, but not to the full thanks to emotional scars and fears. Hart has similar scars of his own, and the pair spark, wound and entice each other in equal measures.

(As for Emma's fortune-hunting friend, Viscount Lancaster, and that intriguing scar... his story comes next - One Week as Lovers)

As always Dahl portrays her characters with sympathy and flair, making them fascinating to read about, with plenty of weaknesses and flaws. Emotional at times, humorous at others, and always compelling, this is a thoroughly enjoyable read.

This should be read after To Tempt A Scotsman. i found that I was on tenterhooks trying to work out why she resisted him, and when her past was going to catch up with her. The villain was indeed sinister in that stalker kind of way, and the hero was little slow on the uptake but the story built up very nicely. liked the ending.
