This book is one where you get to make the Slayer's decisions at certain points in the story. At these decision points you select the option and then go to the page indicated and so on. This particular story is set in season two after the "Dark Age" and involves the core group of Buffy, Giles, Willow, Angel and Xander. Cordelia has a bit part and an "old" friend re-appears.

There are 17 different end points in the book though some are similar (there are only a certain number of ways you can beat the demon). 8 are win end points, 8 are "game lost" end points and one is not quite one or the other. There are a number of ways or paths to each end point. I have two pages of A4 with lots of boxes and lines creating the paths (I'm sad like that).

The story is well written and in line with how the characters would be acting at this point (episode 8-ish) in season 2. There is humour, unexpected twists and insight into the characters fears. I would also say that the paths leading to a bad end point are usually the result of stepping out of line with what the Slayer would do. It seems the author punishes bad role playing. Having said that I found these path interesting though in one or two places a little lacking in credibility.

Well worth the effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars buffy the vampire slayer - night terrors, 13 Oct 2006
this is one of the better stake your destiny collection, with several endings that you didnt already guess a chapter before a greatbook for a buffy fan to be a slayer themselves. a word of advice,"dont get killed!"
