5.0 out of 5 stars Great read
Having read many true crime books this is up there as one of the best.

A detectives fight to bring two bent and murderous cops to justice who were thought to be heros within the police department but the real truth was far from it.

It is slow in places but stick with it as the tale that unfolds is straight out of the movies.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Read
This book is well written but as mentioned by others it can be a bit repetitive and I felt at parts it was far too painstaking in the research often giving pages and pages of detail about things that do not matter. I felt it could have been done in half the pages it took to deliver the story but overall was a good story made all the better by being true. Well worth...

This review is from: The Brotherhoods: The True Story of Two Cops Who Murdered for the Mafia (Mass Market Paperback)
The brotherhoods as everthing! from classic wiseguy characters to the maverick NYPD detective. Tales of brutal murder and ultimate acts of betrayal. The sumptuous true story, of two cops who were hit men for the mafia and also the amazing tenacity of detective William Oldham. Trust me this is a must read for anybody with interest in organised crime and the pursuit of those after justice.

This review is from: The Brotherhoods: The True Story of Two Cops Who Murdered for the Mafia (Mass Market Paperback)
Very well-written, tautly structured and painstakingly detailed account of extraordinary and appalling shenanigans of two rogue cops and of the underworld and police department they worked within. Detective William Oldham is not only a hugely admirable figure for pursuing these cop-criminals, but the comments from him on the case add a lot of colour and humour to the narrative. A must-read for fans of intelligent true-crime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning true story, 8 Aug. 2012

Absolutely superb. I loved every page of this book. It is told like a great fictional story, it is almost impossible to believe. The case that developed over many years by William Oldham is quite remarkable.

You can't help but become `involved' with the characters. I found myself liking people that I really shouldn't have. I would recommend this book to anyone with even the vaguest interest in the mafia or policing or crime.

It is just a superbly written account of an amazing true story.

Overall a very good read, some of the things they did was almost unbelievable! No wonder the mafia and there associates are a shadow of their former selves when you read about there exploits - they seemed to think they are above the law, until their past catches up with them and many of them run to witness protection, but thankfully ,in the end, these two dirty cops did not have this option. This is a well written piece and goes into great detail- maybe a little too much, but definitely worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, 7 Dec. 2011

What can you say? It's unbelievable what these two got up to whilst carrying a badge. Their arrogance is astonishing and it's quite clear they thought they would NEVER be caught! The book ends before the 'full' story of what happens to them is told, but the truth about what they did very much comes out. It's a well-written book and will have you shaking your head in dis-belief. Well worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, 21 April 2012
Fantastic work, was well worth the money. Easy to read & hard to put down. In a sense it is like the real life book version of hbo's 'the wire', it goes into detail telling the stories of all the individual players on both sides of the law - the mafia, corrupt cops, legit cops, rats & unlucky innocent civilians caught up in it all. I highly recommend

4.0 out of 5 stars brotherhoods, 27 Jun. 2013
A complex tale of the mafia and two rogue cops who did some of their dirty work. the book is well written and easy to understand. The NYPD's inability to police itself led to some appalling acts including murder. if you like mafia stuff then you'll enjoy this book........i did.
