An excellent book that studies the many facets of consumer behaviour, and 'types' of consumer, as opposed to merely addressing one typecast consumer.

Gabriel and Lang appear discontent with the fact that many professionals, and society as a whole, like to address consumers as being one and the same (and have been so since the dawn of consumerism as we know it). Instead they opt to explore the different kinds of consumer - chronologically and thematically. They address such issues as the consumer as the chooser; making choices that shape society. As a communicator, who uses items and services to communicate who they are. As well as many other useful, insightful issues in the study of consumerism.

This book is excellently structured, written in an easily accessible way and is well referenced throughout. The material covered is insightful and current. This makes this book a must buy for anyone studying consumerism, or simply someone looking for a frank assessment of how modern companies see consumers, and what they can do about it.

An all round excellent book.

It is a interesting book that gives a sort of anti-capitalistoc view on comercialism. Nice to get that perspecitv as well.
