5.0 out of 5 stars Easily digestible, bite-sized chunks of city advice
Tried and tested on a recent Winter trip to Toronto, this book really passed the test. Never bogged down with too many details, it's ideal for the short break traveller with limited time but lots of energy. It's neatly arranged so that clustered attractions are presented together, and you can tick off a few at a time in a day's walking. Illustrated in colour throughout,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Dated book, not much effort put into revisions!
Book seems to be a bit dated, with a number of attractions it suggests being underwhelming/closed. Perhaps most notably Ontario Place, One of the 'top 10' attractions listed in this book has been closed since 2012 years will be until 2017. This is not mentioned in their list an can only found in a lone sentence within a two page spread further back in the book detailing...

Illustrated in colour throughout, it works as a kind of photo catalogue of your destination - perfect for last-minute itinerary-making on the plane!

Handily, it includes a good section on Niagara and the surrounding places of interest, as well as the city proper.

As always, a solid and engaging city guide from DK, and another reason I'll check their offerings before other travel books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dated book, not much effort put into revisions!, 17 July 2014

Book seems to be a bit dated, with a number of attractions it suggests being underwhelming/closed. Perhaps most notably Ontario Place, One of the 'top 10' attractions listed in this book has been closed since 2012 years will be until 2017. This is not mentioned in their list an can only found in a lone sentence within a two page spread further back in the book detailing all the (closed) attractions at the park. Since the book was revised in 2013 surely more effort could have been made and another attraction put in instead unless the author loves an empty car park and some derelict buildings. We ended up abandoning this guide after 2 days in favor of a number of free apps that were much better and up to date.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but the Kindle Guide lacks easy browsing, 30 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Good, but the Kindle Guide lacks easy browsing. There is much to do if you only, as we did, spend a few days in Toronto and you must not miss a trip to Niagara and a trip up the CN tower. Take an open top bus but do not expect a vast historic tour. Toronto waterfront looks good from the air, not so good at ground level and not certain that this book makes these things clear. A detailed study of 'The Path' would be welcome, a vast underground shopping district involvinmg most of Downtown shops, would be great.

2.0 out of 5 stars hopeless maps, 8 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Some useful info here, but the book is over-complicated to navigate and the maps are worse than useless: you have to double click to access them without distortion and they are full of numbers but lack readily accessible keys. By the time you have finished clicking back and forth you might just as well have stuck with tripadviser and googlemaps. Plus why no pictures?

Frankly there are better resources for free online. Publishers need to work much harder to make decent ebooks from print books. This is a rushed, half-cooked effort.

Very good. Just need to be aware that the restaurant/bar scene has evolved with a significant number of micro breweries now located in the downtown and harbour areas. Good variety of real ales, with food of good quality, varying from 'pub' to 'restaurant' style.

4.0 out of 5 stars ... Guide to Toronto by Lorraine Johnson which is an excellent book which I bought from kindle, 2 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The book I read to research this post was DK Eyewitness Top 10 Travel Guide to Toronto by Lorraine Johnson which is an excellent book which I bought from kindle. This guide covers this huge city in Ontario, Canada and the surrounding area most notably the Niagara Falls and the islands offshore. Toronto has Canada's biggest museum the Royal Ontario Museum which among other things has a whole hall devoted to fossils, a stuffed albatross with 9 foot wingspan and an Egyptian sarcophagus from ancient times. It has the 2nd highest man made structure in the world complete with a roof top restaurant and see through glass floor with views over 1,000 feet downwards. It has a Princess of Wales Theatre opened in 1993 and the first privately funded theatre in this city since 1907. Toronto at one time was a town called York. The Niagara Falls are 80 miles away and the most notable part is the Horseshoe Falls, so shaped and the nearby lake. There is also nearby the smaller America Falls although still part of it. There is also the city of Niagara with its Botanical Gardens. Going back to Toronto there is a huge zoo complex with over 500 species and 5,000 animals. The elephants are located on a 6 mile trail and much of the zoo must similarly have to be explored although there are some real gems. The nearby Pearson International Airport is the main airport and most tourists arrive via here. There is another regional airport with flights from other parts of Canada. Smoking is prohibited in public places and in cars with anyone under 16 inside. I really enjoyed reading this book and it is both well written and informative.
