Why why why has Hollywood not knocked down Harlan Coben's door ?
All the ingredients are here a missing girl, suburban secrets, an ordinary person sucked into extraordinary circumstances, the ambitious journalist, the determined cop.
add a few twists and 1 large final twist and it's this years perfect beach companion

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor
I have read all Harlan Coben's (HC) books and found the majority of them of the highest order.
With HC what you see is what you get and the quality is usually consistently high.
I partcularly like the Myron Bolitar and friends series although the books which use other characters have been excellent i.e. The Woods and Tell No One.
I therefore looked forward...

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked like a hapless fish ... :-),
This review is from: Caught (Hardcover)When I spied the latest Harlan Coben book 'Caught' in the shop, I realised I have turned into a complete coben-aholic. I was so excited I was practically shaking and couldn't even wait to get home before starting to read it ... I jumped in my car, read the first chapter and was hooked like a hapless fish.
The first chapter treats us to a social worker being lured into a trap and exposed as a paedophile on TV. We suspect he may be an innocent man who was set up, but who knows? As always with Coben there is a web of clues to be teased out and explored and lots of twists and turns to entertain on the way.
I know Coben isn't the best writer in the history of the world and I know some of his characters are more caricatures than anything, but there is something deliciously compelling about the way he tells a story. In this book he also manages to convey very well the 'mud sticks' phenomenon ... once a rumour shoots round the internet, even if it is complete fabrication, it can ruin careers and reputations irreparably.
Sadly my favourite Coben character, Myron Bolitar, does not make a comeback in this novel, but Win from that series of books does make a brief appearance so that mollified me somewhat!
In summary ... a great light read that you won't want to put down till you reach the last page. Go on ... you know you want to!
4.0 out of 5 stars Harlan coben ****,
5.0 out of 5 stars curl up with book,
4.0 out of 5 stars Caught me,
This review is from: Caught (Paperback)It is a few years since I read a book by Harlan Coben and I've had this one about 3 years. I've read quite a few of the 'standalone' novels, those which do not feature Myron Bolitar and this is the latest one for me. His novels are well plotted and this one did not disappoint.
The main plot line of this story is paedofilia, a subject for our time. The characters are sympathetically drawn so much so that the accused comes across as a very trustworthy and likeable chap. It's hard to believe he could be guilty as accused though that is the nature of the beast, isn't it. There are of course other interlinked plot lines which draw in other characters and red herrings. Coben writes very natural dialogue and I was caught by the storytelling early on. He keeps up the pace and twists and turns to keep you reading. True, I saw through one of the central premises of the novel which just did not ring true. However that did not stop me reading and all in all, it is a well told tale. In the final 'reveal' the wrong notes I'd detected were confirmed and my verdict was vindicated.
In summary then, a decent, fast-paced thriller, which maybe gave away just a little bit too much. Happy to read one of these every few years.
