5.0 out of 5 stars John Saturnall's Feast
This is a beautiful, descriptive novel which is hard to define, but glorious to read. It is partly a historical novel, set in and around the time of the English Civil War, partly a tale of mythology and also, perhaps mostly, a love story. The book begins with John Sandall and his mother Susan, who grow up in a small village. Preachers accuse John's mother of...

2.0 out of 5 stars more of a curate's egg than a feast
John Saturnall's Feast

I have never written a review on Amazon before, but felt a need to do so for this book, to insert a sceptical note in what is otherwise (in these early days since its publication) an almost uninterrupted litany of praise. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Book Club 'must read' !, 16 Sept. 2012
This review is from: John Saturnall's Feast (Hardcover)
An absolute gem of a novel - a totally captivating fairy tale that will stimulate the senses and transport its readers right back through time. Lawerence Norfolk's descriptive writing is second to none - beautiful. For Book groups everywhere this is a real treat and one that I am sure everyone will relish.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing., 4 Jun. 2013

Can't remember why I chose this book, it might have been the food angle that interested me, but story was disjointed and not really connected to specific historical characters lost credibility

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my taste, 22 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I found it too hard going for the reward of a good read. The promise of something special just didn't materialise for me. Just not to my taste

This review is from: John Saturnall's Feast (Hardcover)
Simply the most beautiful, beautiful thing. A wonderful tale, quite brilliantly told by England's best author. It will be a bestseller and a fantastic film.
