5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended: Peer inside the often-amazing scientific breakthroughs of the modern era, 2 Feb 2011
This review is from: The Naked Scientist: The Science of Everyday Life Laid Bare (Hardcover)
Science and technology are constantly improving, enhancing and rewriting the rules for what we humans are capable of. In the early days of mankind, the technological breakthrough was a wheel, much later came the printing press, and in very recent years, the Internet. Technology is moving at a frenetic pace nowadays, as centuries of momentum and advancements have turned our present day into a world of wonder.
This book serves as a fantastic window into many of those "everyday" developments that are happening at the very edge of modern day science. The breadth of science topics are impressive here; facets featured are as varied as medicine, photography, astronomy, marine biology, geology, genetics, biotechnology, electricity, and the environment, to name but a few. It is safe to say no "stone" of science was left unturned in the making of this book. You will learn about how we evolved ears, how our walks can identify us, the increasing pace of discovery of earth like planets, advancements in tattoo technology, genetically modified cows, landing space probes on asteroids, advancements in fighting diseases and on and on....
As a bonus feature to an already surprising book, there are a few dozen Factoids peppered throughout, sort of the literary equivalent to MythBusters, if you will. After reading this book, you will be reminded that science is indeed fun, the future is now, and the whole planet is actively conspiring in making this world a better place for you and I!

5.0 out of 5 stars So cool!, 23 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Naked Scientist: The Science of Everyday Life Laid Bare (Hardcover)
He makes everything so fun and interesting, a good read. It's more like a series of facts than a full novel but that doesn't diminish its quality in any way.
It arrived on time, good quality etc. No issues.
