Why are cheaper earlier editions concealed?
on 16 January 2013
If you try searching for the third edition you will get nowhere, unless you type in the ISBN number 9780748785254 which will take you straight there, revealing a host of cheaper second-hand options. I suspect this is a deliberate manipulation of search results in order to increase sales of the new version. It does not endear me to Amazon.
Of course this book is essential reading, until at some point Geoff Petty loses favour, which will happen at some point. In the noughties, he seemed to be teachers' pet, and more worryingly, the UK department of education's pet. So save some money, buy a used copy of an earlier version, and use what you save to look at what other educationalists have got to say. Opinions differ and you need to know what else is out there.
