Bought this for GCSE English lit. Had the history of the novel which was useful and well ordered. Reasonable detail on Russian revolution and how it related to the story but contained no real high level creative analysis.Dealt with the more obvious analysis & good for character analysis

this books really useful to have if your studying animal farm. it includes quick and easy to remember summaries for each chapter as well as more detailed descriptions of each event in the book. it highlights useful quotations that will help you to earn high marks in the exam. the book begins with an introduction 'setting the background'. here it lists the events in animal farm and compares them to the events in the soviet union which really help to give an overall understanding of the book and what it means. further on in the book you can find character studies of each character in the book helping you to remember and really understand the purpose of each of them. the book also gives tips on how to improve your grade eg, how to use quotations. this book is overall very useful and i would recommend it to anyone.

I bought this after deciding to write a critical essay based on the novel. It has plenty information on the book and its parody, also a nice break down of the characters as well as each chapter.
If you are struggling to understand the novel don't buy this as a quick fix, it is not! You still have to be able to understand the tools Orwell has used and why. The book will not write the essay for you. What it does do really well is keeps you focused. I'm dyslexic and very forgetful, so English is a bit of a challenge at times, but this book gave me gentle reminders about key point within the novel which really helped keep me on track. If you want to go down the boring route and just discuss the parody between it and the events of the Russian Revolution then this is also pretty helpful.
(My advice though would be to look at it from another angel, remember the markers have probably read the whole Russian Revolution parody discussion a thousand times or more.)Animal Farm: A Fairy Story (Penguin Modern Classics)

I think it's a great for teaching independence and that anyone can have independence(even animals)!!! It was my first George Orwell book (although I am just nine)!I have to say the way George Orwell described the Characters was unbelievable!!!!!!! I also love poetry and I liked the short poem in it.

I like the York notes, they are simple and informative, laid out well. Also they don't have the funny haha rubbish that other guides have to appeal to the yoooth market (which are actually a big switch off).
We have got Mice and Men as well...also good
