4.0 out of 5 stars History made even more HORRIBLE!, 21 Mar 2007
Learning without realising!

'The Slimy Stuarts tells you the foul, funny and fascinating facts about life for everyone in Stuart times, from gibbering James I to suffering school children and cunning criminals.

Want to know:-

why some slimy Stuarts ate toads, snails and fleas?
which king picked his nose and never washed his hands?
why people wore fish on their feet?

Read on for some awful information about revolting Roundheads, terrifying torture and the perilous plague.
Find out the gruesome truth about ghastly Guy Fawkes, and some tragic tales of woeful women accused of witchcraft.
History with the nasty bits left in!
History has never been so horrible!'

A humorous, colourful paperback cover opens to 127 pages, split over 19 chapters:-

* Slimy Stuart timeline
* Slimy James I
* Curious cures
* Charles I
* The Civil War
* The spooky Stuarts
* Test your teacher
* Sickly Stuart snacks
* Charles II
* Fire and plague
* James II
* Slimy Stuart crime
* Painful punishments
* William and Mary
* Slimy Stuart facts
* Stuart women and children
* Talk like a Stuart
* Stuart fun and games
* Queen Anne

with an introduction and an epilogue.

Written with typical Deary humour, in a variety of fonts, with black and white illustrations/cartoons throughout from Martin Brown. Littered with all sorts of trivia, ranging from 'Did you Know......snippets, quizzes, and 'test your teacher' questions......along.....with the odd riddle!

So what does one do with a 'lobster tail pot'?

Super book and one of my favourites of the HUGE HH series, ending with a philosophical cartoon:-

'Lots of innocent people died in civil war and revolutions during the reign of the Stuarts. Next time you light a firework on the 5th of November, look into the sparks and say to yourself.......

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
Was Guy Fawkes a devil, the Stuarts all saints?
Are we glad that they stopped him.....or not?'

Check out The Slimy Stuarts Sticker Book , too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Come on you Stuarts, 6 April 2011
This review is from: Slimy Stuarts (Horrible Histories TV Tie-in) (Paperback)
Horrible Histories: Slimy Stuarts.
Come On You Stuarts! By Terry Deary.

The Horrible Histories, series of books are fantastic, but in my opinion the Slimy Stuarts has to be the best.

In this amazing action packed book, you get to know all the fun facts about life in the Stuart times.

Just like every other Horrible History, it has quizzes, test your teacher and did you knows, but this is the absolute best!!!

I think everyone would enjoy the Horrible History books, especially this one. I love this book and you will too.
