I've had How Tom Beat Captain Najork and His Hired Sportsmen for 25 years, and never knew that this sequel existed. What a delight to discover it! Very funny, added value for those who know the first book as there are references back to it. Quentin Blake illustrations at their very best. Much too good for kids.

Off the wall humour and right up my street, this book is only surpassed by the original. It's lexicon has entered the vocabulary of my family........."eat your greasy bloaters!"

This is a great piece of writing with lots of energy, fantastic illustrations from Blake and a very eccentric and English feeling story from Russell Hoban - which is odd because he's American - but there is an madness to both the Najork books that only an upperclass Anglophile could produce (or so you'd think). Lovely stuff!

Utterly brilliant words, gloriously funny pictures. A hilarious, imaginative, completely original and crazy book. "One morning after breakfast Tom was fooling around with his chemistry set and he invented anti-sticky...". Really love it!

An excellent story with fun for both children and adults. Fine illustrations. The paperback version seems rather small and flimsy compared with the hardback.

Brilliant book for kids. Multi-level humour means I can enjoy it too!
