I was lucky enough to come across this little gem of a radio series by chance.

I say lucky because it really is a wonderful listen and I would encourage you to take a chance and buy it.
The price is a steal for such an entertaining radio show.

You don't have to but I would buy the first series first.

Trevor's World of Sport: Series 1 (BBC Audio)

BUT the main reason to buy the first series is for the simple reason you will buy it anyway after you listen to the great comedy of the second series and simply want more. It is THAT good.
So really you are just saving your time and making the second series just that little bit better.
Does that make sense?

Good.

Now to the series.
The first question the potential buyer needs to know is..

Is this set entertaining?

Yes it is and if anything is a little bit better than the first but only from the viewpoint that we know all the characters- their history just makes that more deep and heck it is funny.

You will be well rewarded with your purchase because it is very well written by the excellent Andy Hamilton.

And Hamilton really is an excellent comedy writer.
He always makes you chuckle and at times really burst out laughing.

I believe Hamilton has taken the torch from radio writers such as Galton and Simpson, Spike Milligan and Dennis Norden he is that good and for a guy with only one thumb grasping the torch so well is no mean feat!!
(Sorry about that pun Andy but take it in the spirit it was made is there 'the Heather McCartney' awards for puns like that I wonder?)

Hamilton's most famous radio comedy is the supremely hilarious Old Harry's Game and he is joint writer for TV's Out Numbered and co created Drop the Dead Donkey so he has good form as a comedy writer of brilliant topical material.
The Old Harry's Game: Complete Series 1 and 2 (BBC Audio)

Now to the show itself it revolves around TS Sports Stars a PR and Promotions Company run by Trevor and Sammy.

The lead roles of Trevor played by Neil Pearson and Sammy by Paul Reynolds are excellent. Hamilton has two really believable characters each with their own hang ups that bounce off and around each other.
The agency staff has 3 great characters in Theresa a devout Christian, the Lesbian Heidrum- a German with intelligence and a Teutonic take on the English character and foibles and finally Barry the intern.
BUT a major contributor to the act is the ever present Ralph played by Michael Fenton Stevens he always manages, if not to steal the scene, but make it 5 times better. He is a truly genius character creation by Hamilton. Ralph is that good a character that he could easily have his own series.

The jokes are based around all the agency's clients 'Kylie Minogue like voiced Australian Tennis Player, over the hill Rugby Stars, diving supreme 'French?' Football players and Ralph especially Ralph.

The episode where he gives a pep talk to the aged Rugby Union Star has to be heard to be believed it is up there with some of Andy Hamilton's finest from 'Old Harry's Game' and you do not get higher praise than that.

As usual I won't give any other details away because half the fun of listening is how the characters reveal themselves and the interplay between them. But really they are THAT good.

Sammy is a damaged Sex Maniac with no scruples over publicity good or bad and Trevor who is the voice and conscience of reason.
Sammy has the skills and sincerity of an American Snake Oil salesman on a roll.

I really appreciate that this review does not convey just how good the series is but I really do want other people to listen to and really enjoy the sheer brilliance of this show.

As with the first that you could do far worse than chance a fiver and give it a try.

Brilliant.
