Tremendous horror movie book that combines fantastic stills with fun facts from Mr Landis. He manages to admire and poke fun these movies without being overly critical.

John Landis may have not directed a great film since the 1980's (his last film, BURKE & HARE [2010], came and went without much impact), but he has done a fantastic job with this book, as it looks back on all the movie monsters that have appeared on the silver screen for almost a hundred years. He presents to us all different types of creatures like dinosaurs, dragons, fantasy creatures, man-made monsters, vampires, ghosts, werewolves, creatures from outer-space and some more (Don't worry, two of the world's greatest giant movie monsters - King Kong and Godzilla - are also in the book). There are those that are famous, not-so terrific and the types that you might have never heard or seen before!

Landis also speaks to the likes of Guillermo Del Toro (director of PAN'S LABYRINTH [2006]), Sir Christopher Lee (Saruman in THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy [2001-2003]), Ray Harryhausen (the legendary stop-motion animator), Rick Baker (one of Hollywood's finest make-up artists) and John Carpenter (director of THE THING [1982]) about their memories of seeing these monsters on the big-screen, bringing them to life and if something like ghosts or machines should be categorizes as monsters.

Throughout the book, there are tons of film stills and posters in each category on these screen monsters, with Landis giving his own brief opinion on both the creature and the films they appear in (for example, he considers SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER & UNCUT [1999], which appears in the section focusing on devil creatures, to be the best musical of the 1990's and he's right!). This book is truly of must-buy for ALL fans of monster movies and something you'll want to read time and time again. Well done, John Landis, for making a brilliant book.
